What does this mean?
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Overview
We have early afternoon starts from 13:00 to 15:30, to allow for the travelling distance for many clubs and have open start times. Pippingford Park will be our Event Centre.
Entries will be separate from the CompassSport Cup entries. We will use Racesignup for entries and the event will be open to anyone, including from clubs that did not qualify for the CompassSport Cup final the following day and those not a member of an orienteering club.
You must not stray beyond the red and white tapes at the Event Centre as you are then in the competition area for the CompassSport Cup final. Anyone transgressing risks disqualification in the CS Cup final.

Directions / Parking
Pippingford Park is accessed from the A22 as a left turn about 2km south of Wych Cross. Look for the red and white orienteering signs in each direction before the entrance and the orienteering kite at the entrance.
Map / Terrain
The terrain is a mixture of areas of runnable woodland often with intricate contour detail and open areas in various stages of regeneration which have variable runnability. We will be using the part of the area which has the most similar terrain to Pippingford Park being used for the CompassSport Cup Final the following day.
We are grateful to the Mole Valley club for allowing us to use their map, which was updated by DFOK in late 2025 for our National event in January 2026. A link to routegadget from that event is here
Entry Details
There is Early Entry up to midnight on Sunday, 20 September
The Standard entry closing date is midnight on Sunday, 11 October
Late entries accepted up to the event date are at an additional cost and are subject to map availability.
There is a parking charge to mitigate the cost of being able to use Pippingford Park for our event centre.
Please email the Organiser no later the midnight on Sunday, 11 October if you are bringing a minibus or coach.
We have a limited number of SIACs available for hire. Once these have been taken, the option to select a SIAC hire will be withdrawn.

Registration and Start times
Registration opens at 12:30
Start times are from 13:00 to 15:30. Please email the organiser if you would like to participate but do not expect to be able to arrive until after 15:15 and we will let you know whether we can allow your entry.
Courses close at 16:30.

Safety Notes
The safety bearing is west until you reach the A22 then walk north on the verge or, even better, just inside the forest. Keep well away from the edge of the verge as traffic is fast moving.
Miscellaneous
Ashdown Forest, as many of you will know, is a very special place. It is managed by the Board of Conservators of Ashdown Forest, an independent body. In recognition of the ecological importance of Ashdown Forest and to ensure its protection, it is designated as a European Natura 2000 site and as a Site of Special Scientific Interest under UK legislation. Ashdown Forest is also within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Conservators have duties laid down by statute which include the following:
To regulate and manage the forest as an amenity and place of resort
To conserve it as a quiet and natural area of outstanding beauty
The Conservators are keen to raise the public’s (and hence our) awareness of their legal duty and, within this, their aim of balancing the interests of all users of the forest.
