What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Directions / Parking

We will be based at The Princess of Wales, 146 Lea Bridge Road, Clapton E5 9RB.

Nearest stations are Clapton on the London Overground  Weaver line from Liverpool Street (12 min walk <1km) or Lea Bridge on the Greater Anglia line from Stratford (15 min walk 1.1km). 

Buses 55 and 56 run along Lea Bridge Road to the pub from near to each station.

Course Information

Short course - 2.5k

Long course - 5.0k

Both courses are measured to the optimal route, i.e. long 5k and short 2.5k. Long course winning time is expected to be around 20 mins

The two courses includes the park areas of North Millfields Recreation Ground and Millfields Park, with the Long course visiting some of the surrounding streets. The Short course will stay in the parks. There will be a mandatory link between the 2 parks via an underpass alongside the canal for which there will be a timed out section with an allowance of up to one minute. 

Road shoes will be fine and there is no need for full leg cover.

Newcomers are most welcome and plenty of guidance is provided in advance via a link to two short videos is on the racesignup event page and will also be available in person on the day. Standard entry - Seniors £6 and Juniors (under 21 on 31 December 2026) £3

Additional £2 for any Senior that is not a member of British Orienteering (or join here now, selecting DFOK as your club, for under £15 ) and benefit from the member discount and a range of other DFOK offerings!)

Electronic chip hire is £1 for standard and £2.50 for contactless punching (limited availability). Lost cards £30/£65 respectively.

Registration and Start times

The start is c200m from the pub and the finish is less than 100m from the pub. 

Enquiries will be open from 17:45. Starts are from 18:15 to 19:30. Courses close at 20:30.

Entries via www.racesignup.co.uk will be kept open until 19:00 on the event date subject to maps being available.

Facilities

Pub facilities with food and drinks, toilets and a place to leave kit at the Event Centre. 

Last orders for food in the pub is 9.45pm. The menu can be viewed on the pub website www.princessofwalesclapton.co.uk

First aid kit at the Event Centre on a largely self help basis with a qualified sports first aider present

Dog restrictions

Dogs on a short lead and under control at all times are welcome on the courses
