Local level event

What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Directions / Parking

The event centre is at Lodge Farm, Lodge Lane, Cobham accessible from the mini roundtable with the war memorial to the east of Cobham Village. Easy access from the A2 from the same exit as for Shorne Woods Country Park.

Parking space at the farm is limited so cars will be parked close together. The event centre is close to our parking.

Please follow the red and white taped route from the parking area to the Start and from the Finish, both of which are about 750m from the event centre (allow 10 minutes).

There are no toilets or refreshments at the event centre but there are toilets and refreshments available at Shorne Woods Country Park. Parking for up to 15 mins is not charged but if you want to exceed this time, you will need to buy a parking ticket; automatic numbers plate recognition is in use. If you decide to buy a ticket, it is £4.30 and valid all day. Entry and exit is permitted so you will be able to return for refreshments, the use of the playground and everything else Shorne has to offer after your run.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT A ROAD CLOSURE

Halfpence Lane from the Shorne exit of the A2 to the Cobham war memorial is closed. Do not leave the A2 at this exit.

The two main approaches to the war memorial are:
- from the east or west, leave the A2 at the Gravesend East turn off, head south past Jeskyns which brings you into Cobham village. Continue east through the vlllage to the war memorial
- from the south/M20, leave the A228 at the Cuxton junction and head west along Bush Road and into Warren Road to a T junction where you turn right and climb uphill to the memorial.

The road closure means that it will take about 10 minutes longer each way to get from the Event Centre to the Shorne Woods Country Park facilities so you may want to go there first, or elsewhere, before coming to the event.

Map / Terrain

The woods are mainly deciduous forest with some great views.

There's plenty of open and semi open areas with scattered trees which are covered in bracken in the Summer which will have died down in late January.

A small herd of highland cattle roam Cobham Great Wood. These attractive animals create routes through the bracken. Although they are docile, keep a wide berth when near to them to avoid frightening them.

Some of the majestic trees have fallen during storms and high winds over the years. In Cobham Great Wood they are left on the ground to provide nutrition for a variety of creatures. Several different species of bats can be seen at dusk in this area.

50 new trees have been planted relatively recently and protected from the deer and cattle by a small wooden fenced enclosure. These fenced enclosures and the small trees within them have not been mapped.
