Kent Night Cup

Local level event

What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Report

It was good to put on a KNC event this year after last years' nightmare when nothing technical wanted to work for me and time just ran out.  This year Neil Speers covered off all the technical side, suggested the car parking location (I love free parking),  and map printing leaving me free to update the map, set the course, check and tape up the lampposts and collate the Apres-O.  It all seemed to go pretty smoothly, which is good because despite appearances a lot of work went into putting it on.

Those who know me know that I am not a fan of Maprun as it never seems to work for everyone as it should.   Both Chris H and Mark F had 3 pings missing which is frustrating because when I checked them they all worked perfectly, but then I was walking round rather than running.  Perhaps a more appropriate name for the App is MapWalk! if you had a control that didn't ping that please contact John Cross and Neil Speers who'll sort it out for you.

Swanley is a pretty good place for an urban night event and I especially enjoyed hearing from those who rushed off from the start and falling for my tempting 20 points trick at Control 20 only to find out it wasn't easily accessible.

Well done to Matthew for collecting the most points, to Sean for the best use of time and to David Lobley for the most effective run achieving 32.6 points per kilometre.

I also appreciated all your kind comments about the event generally.

See you soon.
