What does this mean?
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

This is event seventeen of the Kent Night Cup series 2025/26 and is an urban street and park 60 minute score event. Mass start 19:30hrs.
Insurance advice from British Orienteering. Under 16's may take part in this event non-competitively provided they are accompanied by an adult at all times and the adult assumes full responsibility for them. Note, that neither the junior nor the accompanying adult will be eligible for KNC league points.

Directions / Parking
For those driving, parking will be at the Chatham Dockside Shopping Outlet main car park (as the above location information). This is a paid car park but only £1.10 for two hours. The main ticket machine is at the north-east corner of the car park.
Public transport: Buses No. 1 or 2 go to Chatham Dockside Shopping Outlet from Chatham Railway Station and take approximately 20 minutes.
Map / Terrain
The streets, paths and public open spaces of Chatham Dockside and St Mary’s Island. This is the site of the twentieth century naval dockyard and includes a number of historic docks and piers. St Mary’s Island has been redeveloped as residential housing. The area is mainly lit but there are some unlit paths and roads (so bring a small head torch, or hand torch). The wearing of reflective or light-coloured clothing is recommended.
Map is a new ISSprOM 2019-2 sprint map at a scale 1:4,000 with 2 metre contours.
Map will be pre-drawn with the course and printed on A3 waterproof paper.
Course Information
A single 60 minute score course, suitable for all abilities.
Twenty controls in total (80 to 99) which can be visited in any order (no sets). A bonus will be awarded for controls visited where the last digit of the control number is the same and visited sequentially (i.e 81 > 91 or 85 >95). There will be ten dumbbells. Each control is worth 10 point, plus an extra 10 points per dumbbell pair. A penalty of 15 points will be deducted for each minute, or part minute, beyond the 60 minutes course time.
Equipment: SPORTIDENT timing will be used. Controls will be SIAC enabled (contactless) but not the finish which will be punched. Standard non-SIAC dibbers can be used as normal punching. If you don’t have a dibber, they are available to hire when you register in advance (see below). SI dibbers can be hired for £1. SIAC (contactless) dibbers can be hired for £2.50. Lost hired dibbers will be charged at a cost of £30 for SI and £60 for SIAC.

Pre-entry only (no entry at the event) online through www.racesignup.co.uk . Entries close at 12:00hrs on day of event.

BOF Seniors £5, Non-BOF Senior £7, Juniors £3. SI dibber hire £1. SIAC dibber hire £2.50.
The first three competitors offering to assist with control collection at the end of the event (preferably those not eating at the Apres-O as the kitchen closes at 9pm) will automatically receive a 50% reduction in the entry fee.

Facilities
The Chatham Dockside Shopping Outlet has public toilets but the centre closes at 7pm. There are a few external retail / restaurants which are open later and have their own facilities.
Results will hopefully be available at the après-O on the night (see below) and on the DFOK website within a day or so.
Après-O and prize-giving: The Après-O will be at Ship & Trades (ME4 3ER, W3W: ///pipes.votes.crowd). Please indicate on Racesignup if you are intending to eat afterwards. Food needs to be pre-ordered by 16:00hrs on Wednesday 11 February (the day before the event) and so please email your selection to Neil at neil.speers.uk@gmail.com. Parking at the pub is free for an hour, parking is also free over the hour if you register your car details on a tablet in the pub.
