What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Directions / Parking

Parking will be at the Hosey Common Car Park, Hosey Common Road, Westerham, TN16 1TA. Access from the east via the A25 (M25 Jnt 5 / A21 Sevenoaks). Access from the west via the A25 (M25 Jnt 6 / A22).

Public transport: A long way from anywhere! Contact the organiser at least a few days before the event if you need a lift from a local station.

Pre-event Details

Map / Terrain

Hosey Common and Tower Wood are the two eastern blocks of Westerham Chart. They comprise a mixture of deciduous and coniferous woodland. The area has an extensive path network and earthwork features. The competition area does include one significant and two minor roads. The significant north-south road is out-of-bounds except at a single crossing point.

Map scale 1:7,500 with 5 metre contours. Map updated to winter 2024.

The map will be pre-drawn with the course and printed on A4 waterproof paper.

Course Information

A single 60 minute score course, suitable for all abilities.

Twenty controls in total made up of two sets of ten controls (80s and 90s). Visit as many controls in one set of ten (in any order), before switching to the second set. No change over control. One road crossing control (100), which must be punched on each crossing of the road (minimum twice). Any competitor visiting controls west of the road and not punching the road crossing control (100) will be automatically disqualified.

Each control is worth 10 points, except the single road crossing control which has no value (0 points). A penalty of 10 points will be deducted for each minute, or part minute, beyond the 60 minute course time.

Equipment: SPORTIDENT timing will be used. Controls will be SIAC enabled (contactless) but not the finish which will be punched. Standard non-SIAC dibbers can be used as normal punching. If you don’t have a dibber, they are available to hire when you register in advance (see below). SI dibbers can be hired for £1. SIAC (contactless) dibbers can be hired for £2.50. Lost hired dibbers will be charged at a cost of £30 for SI and £60 for SIAC.

Entry Details

Pre-entry only (no entry at the event) online through www.racesignup.co.uk . Entries close at 12:00hrs on day of event.

BOF Seniors £6, Non-BOF Senior £8, and Juniors £3. SI dibber hire £1. SIAC dibber hire £2.50.
The first four competitors offering to assist with control collection at the end of the event will automatically receive a 50% reduction in the entry fee.

Facilities

No facilities are available at the car park, including toilets. If necessary please use toilet facilities on your journey to the event.

Results will hopefully be available at the après-O on the night (see below) and on the DFOK website within a few days.

Après-O and prize-giving: Please indicate on Racesignup if you are intending to eat afterwards.
