What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Overview

As we have a few maps left on each course, entries are still open and probably will be tomorrow morning too. Please enter before you leave home as there is no cash entry at the event and it is easier to enter on a computer or tablet than on a mobile phone at the event. Newcomers are most welcome and guidance will be provided at the event.

Directions / Parking

The parking and event centre including Download is in the Darenth Country Park Car Park, Gore Farm, Gore Road, Dartford, DA2 6PU - follow the orienteering signs from the small roundabout (Gore Road).
Nearest railway station is Dartford which is a 5km walk/cycle from the event.

The Start and Finish are within 100m of the event centre.

Pre-event Details

Map / Terrain

Map: Darenth Country Park, 1:4,000 scale with 5m contours. Minor updates in Nov 2021.
Terrain: Mainly open parkland with a small, forested area to the south of the map.

Course Information

Yellow 2.5km. Controls (checkpoints) are very easy to find, mostly on paths, ideal for younger children and complete beginners.

Orange 3.5km Controls are on or near paths with some route choice. Good for progressing juniors and adult newcomers who are reasonably confident reading a map.

Green 4.5km Controls are away from paths giving more navigational challenge. Suitable for those with some experience.

Score: Visit as many controls as you can in an hour. Controls are in 3 groups, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Visit as many controls as you choose in any one group before moving on to another group. No return to a group that has been left. Suitable for anyone.

Course lengths are indicative and are as measured in straight lines. Actual distance travelled will be greater.

Entry Details

Entries via www.racesignup.co.uk. Entries in advance only.
Select your preferred start time block when you enter.
Maximum of 14 starters in any 15 minutes per course.

Fees: Seniors £5, Juniors £2; Juniors can be shadowed. Families participating as a group £8; only one entry is needed for a group but please add to the surname any additional particpants e.g. John Bloggs +2

Registration and Start times

Enquiries: Open from 10.30
Start and Finish: Start times are 11:00 to 12:00. Courses close 13:30.
Electronic Punching: SportIdent electronic punching will be used for all courses. Entry fee includes the hire of an electronic finger.

Facilities

No toilets. Customers at local supermarkets and petrol stations may be able to use their facilities.

Dog restrictions

Well-behaved dogs on a lead.
