Family Orienteering

Local level event

What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Map / Terrain

Parkland with several open spaces and areas of forest, a lake, ornamental gardens and a mansion.

Course Information

Yellow 2.5km. Controls (checkpoints) are very easy to find, mostly on paths, ideal for younger children and complete beginners.

Orange 3.5km Controls are on or near paths with some route choice. Good for progressing juniors and adult newcomers who are reasonably confident reading a map.

Green 4.5km Controls are away from paths giving more navigational challenge. Suitable for those with some experience.

You will run a bit further than the above straight line distances.

Score: Visit as many controls as you can in an hour. No set course to follow.
The controls will be in three sets, numbered in the 50's, 60's and 70's.
Either
1) Find as many controls as you can in a hour in any order, OR
2) Find as many controls in any one set then move to a different set and finish on the final set. Visit as many controls as you choose in any one set before moving on to another set. No return to a group that has been left.

You have a time limit of 60 minutes with penalties for exceeding the allocated time.

Separate results for options 1) and 2). Suitable for anyone.

Entry Details

Entry in advance only via racesignup

See racesignup for details of the entry fees

As we have spare maps currently on all the courses, we are keeping entries open until 11:30 on the day of the event. All entries will continue to be through racesignup so please enter before you leave home as it will likely be more fiddly to do so on your mobile phone at Danson Park

Families and other groups are most welcome. Enter the name of one person in the group only and add +x (e.g. +2 for a group of 3 people) to the surname for other members to the group. Only one entry is needed and we issue one map to the group and one electronic timing chip to the group.

Registration and Start times

You can arrive at any time from 10:30 to 11:45 and start at any time between 11:00 and 12:00
