Here is the schedule for this year's London Park Race Series which will take place over the summer months using the MapRun app.
Also entries are now open for the SLOW OK Nuts Trophy event at Winterfold on May 9th.
British Orienteering is hosting two webinars on mapping aimed at beginner level:
An introduction to the art and science of mapping - Tuesday 20 April
An introduction to surveying and creating base maps - Tuesday 4 May,
The first will give information as to how to get started and the second will cover setting up a map including the basics of contouring and geo-referencing. Each webinar runs from 7:30-8:45pm.
Further details, including how to register for the webinars, is available here.
April 2021 Challenge: Foots Cray Meadows

Parking: In Leafield Lane off the A223 North Cray Road.
When: Any time until midnight on 3 May. Start at any time you choose.
There is no time limit for completing any course.
Download the App MapRun6 to your mobile phone then within the App, go to Select Event then scroll down to UK, then London South East and the Bexley folder. The events are Foots Cray Challenge Long PXAC, Foots Cray Challenge Short PXAC. Click here for Guidance on how to use the App
Control descriptions are printed are on each map.
Both courses have been planned so that the only sensible place to cross the river is at the widest bridge, known as Five Arches. You may encounter other users of the meadows here and on some narrow paths in places. Please pass with caution and allow plenty of space.
The bridge (control 3 on the short course, control 17 on the long course) was damaged but still crossable when the maps were checked but it has since been reported that barriers have been placed either side of it. If the bridge has not been repaired by the time you run the challenge it may be uncrossable and affect your route choice to the next control. If you visit the control but do not pick up the GPS signal then you will need to adjust your result using the MapRun HITMO facility.
In line with current Government guidance, ensure social distancing is maintained at all times, including with members of the public and participate in accordance with those guidelines.
This Challenge is not an organised event or activity, so you are not covered by British Orienteering's insurance. You do the Challenge as an individual for personal training and you are responsible for both your own safety and the safety of others around you.
Results: these will be available in early May.
I hope that you enjoy this Challenge.
Any feedback would be welcome to the above email.
Enjoy your run!
