Thanks
to everyone for coming to Hucking. Particular thanks to Phil Craven
and Dave Cave for helping before the event and stepping in as late
evening organisers. Thanks also to control collectors Neil Speers,
Jerry Purkis, Chris Rogers, Phil and Andy Pitcher.
A
pity that the pub has closed down. They took the booking a month
earlier. The area makes a good venue for an early season night event,
not too hard and therefore ideal for those trying their first night
event, and a 10 metre walk to the pub would be ideal. At least the
weather was perfect for night O, unlike the previous evening when I
put out the controls.
For those using low powered
torches, this might be the year to upgrade to a super high powered
unit. The LED super bright headtorch types are now under £100 and
don't require an enormous battery. Perhaps we should do a bulk Kent
Night Cup order and negociate a discount?
Finally I
would be interested in any feedback on the putting the course on the
web experiment. I hope it helped those new to night orienteering and
avoid getting stuck in a corner of a field. It also helped
clarify/identify some faults on the map. Of course it makes it
easier. We don't plan to do this at other DFOK night events... but it
might be something we try where the main aim is to help
beginners.
