North West Kent League: Event 2. Danson Park.

Another great event with a nice mix of experienced orienteers, rapidly improving newcomers and complete beginners. Mark Collins explained the 3 score course format perfectly and everyone followed the rules. We use this format quite a lot for the Kent Night Cup to add distance in small areas. Many of you managed 3 laps of Danson Park. Perhaps next year we need a 4th lap using control 101? “island (middle)” that should do it.

I’ve also put the league scores up. Quite a few juniors ran in groups, so I haven’t put those scores in the league. If you run on your own (or shadowed by an adult) at a later event, and want these scores added in future as if you were an individual just let me know.

For the next event (at Franks Park on July 10th), don’t be fooled by it’s size (even smaller than Danson Park), it’s very steep. Newcomers can stick to or near the flat open valley in the middle, experienced orienteers will need to run up and down the steep slopes along the side which are mostly wooded. It should be great fun, but impossible to get too lost in this small park.

If you can’t wait until then, don’t forget neighbouring clubs are doing lots of local orienteering with courses suitable for all. The final Kent Orienteering League event is next week near Tonbridge. The London Park series is proving very popular on weekday evenings, as well as the June/July “Frolics” series (a slightly silly name, but great events to go to). See www.seoa.org.uk for a full list.
