Controllers Comments:
The organiser of an event at Westerham is always going to make use of
the superb facilities at Chartwell and Sheralee took full advantage of
this. One problem created by the location of the event centre is that
the shortest courses will be confined to the Hosey Common part of the
map which has an intricate path network and paths appear and disappear
over time. Some of the paths are difficult to follow when covered in
fallen leaves. With hindsight we should have taped legs 4 to 5 and 5 to
6 on the yellow course as re-location was very difficult if you lost
your way. The longer courses were well planned and Steve made best use
of the area given the location of the event centre and the winning
times were about right.
Some blue competitors had problems finding control 9 Gully Bend. I
think this was due to the distraction of seasonal paths just north of
the control. This was also used on the brown but approached from the
south and caused no problem. The control was in the correct gully.
It came as a bit of a surprise when we began to run out of maps on
Brown, Blue and Green as three south east clubs were involved in the
Compass Sport Cup Final which obviously would reduce the numbers. Thank
you to those who gave up their map for ‘recycling’.
