Thanks to everyone who took part in the 5 score course experiment. It was Nick's suggestion (apparently SLOW did something similar). I thought it might be chaotic but the map changeover was straightforward enough. Only one person took the maps in the wrong order and I decided to let him off. The results are slightly different to the ones announced in the pub. 4 people either punched a control within the wrong group or punched a control twice. 61 seemed to be a case in point, perhaps you were getting dizzy?

Some of you will know that many DFOK areas are small. Now that CROC have joined, DFOK have inherited a half dozen or so Beacon Wood sized areas, so its great to prove that the concept works. We could use the format for future informal events. In fact plans are already afoot for the first ever Danson Park long - o. This will be a 20 Km course with only 32 different maps, sponsored by Aylesford Paper Recyling.

In the briefing I forgot to mention that the yellow "semi open" section is really just runnable forest. In the daytime you can see what the mapper means, or meant 3 years ago when the area was last re-surveyed. Also the control on the earth bank to the far west was a bit dodgy - I probably should have used a more obvious feature, I was trying to squeeze the maximum distance out of that course.

In case you were wondering, the slightly intimidating looking bunch of teenagers near the start quickly dispersed after everyone started. I didn’t even have to use one of those mosquito things. All I did was talk to them nicely. Maybe they thought it was a little un cool talking to two old gits. They were harmless and possibly a bit bored. Next year I will lend them a torch and send them out.
