ORGANISERS COMMENT'S

It was pleasing to see that over 200 of you decided to come to the event despite it being a morning with persistent rain. We hope it didn't spoil your enjoyment of the event too much. Those of you I spoke to certainly seemed to have enjoyed it and as far as I'm aware things went fairly smoothly.

Thanks go to everyone who helped to make the event possible. In particular, we'd like to thank the National Trust for making their facilities available and for their help on the day.

CONTROLLERS COMMENT'S

Apart from my own little panic with an SI card that was reluctant to do anything with some SI units, the event seems to have gone very smoothly. One little glitch, an SI unit at the finish that was a 'control' rather than a 'finish', was quickly identified and replaced. Those few that were affected have had their results corrected as the times were still recorded on your cards and in the SI box itself.

I don't think Westerham is generally the most technical of areas and both Dave and I were keen to try and avoid too much running through 'green'. There were some legs on the longer courses that had long path runs, necessary for those courses going across to the Chart and back. It would also have been nice to have the white course a little longer but that was not possible with the shape of the path network on Hosey Common. As it was there were still 14 controls on this course.

Provisional results I have seen show that Dave's courses have met the colour coded guidelines. The white course was won in an impressive 13 minutes, whilst on light green it seems CROC were having a club competition, the winner completing the course in around 6 minute kilometres, as did the winner of the brown course, despite the very muddy paths. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed your course.

I would like to thank DFOK on behalf of you, the competitors, for putting on the event. I hope you also had the opportunity to try out the National Trust teas. Perhaps it would be quite nice to have a few more events organised with a tea room next to the car park…

PLANNERS COMMENT'S

Like Dylan, I was really pleased to see so many people attending on what was a
pretty grim day weatherwise. Orienteering apart, Westerham is a particularly nice area and I have enjoyed a number of visits over the last few months whilst planning the event. My initial aim was to allow the courses to cover as much of the area as possible without being too technical or arduous.

My apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced by the wrong SI unit at the finish. I had spare units in the car that became mixed up with the finish units and I put out a spare instead of the correct unit.

My thanks to Keith Tonkin for his diligence, tolerance and guidance and thank you all for attending.
