Organisers Comments
I
was pleased to hear so many people commenting on how they enjoyed the courses
despite the undergrowth being high in some areas.
Apologies
to those people who were waiting to start at 10.30, we encountered a few
problems early on, which meant the controls were still being put out until the
last minute.¹ With it being such a lovely
day though I hope the wait particularly for the Blue and Brown runners wasnüt
too bad.
Despite
preparations I was surprised to realise exactly how many problems it can be
possible to have on the day, all of which were dealt with so well by the
helpersåsome of you may have noticed the download being powered by a car
battery!
I
hope that any retirees have not been put off and will be orienteering at the
next DFOK event.
Planners Comments
This
was the first event I had planned. After setting up the controls I
strategically placed myself close to the download tent for some time to get an
idea of competitorüs views on the event as they finished. Most competitors had
positive comments on the course they had run; saying how they had enjoyed their
run or how well planned they thought it was. It made
the whole planning experience seem worthwhile.
One
query that was mentioned many times was the location of the control on the
stream. The control may have been indicated too far downstream on the map. This
along with the general mapping of the stream may have confused many
competitors. Apologies to all competitors who struggled with
this control.
I
was disappointed to see the results on the Green course, the times were slower
than I expected, along with a lot of retirements. This may have been down to
some areas being quite grotty and slow to get through. Quite a number of
competitors on this course struggled to find control 129 (the control on the
stream) and control 130 (NW end of earth wall).
The
majority of competitors on the Blue and Brown courses managed to complete their
run within the range of the BOF recommended times.
There

Thanks
to the Controller, Chris Baker, and to all who helped out on the day.
