New to Orienteering?

Orienteering is an exciting outdoor adventure sport which involves navigating around a course using a detailed map and sometimes a compass.
The aim is to navigate between a set of control points and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, and you can run, walk or jog round the course and progress at your own pace.

Success at the final KOL for DFOK

The final KOL of the season took place on Saturday 17th May at Milton Creek Country Park in Sittingbourne. There was still a lot to play for in the league and this was the last chance to improve your standing. The area is a mixture of some relatively flat rough open with plenty of paths, some lakes and even a level crossing! It was going to be an exciting final event especially suited to the faster runners!

There were some great results by DFOK members on the day especially on the blue, green, yellow and score courses with Antoine Pesenti finishing 2nd on blue, Ian Catchpole finishing 4th on green, Joseph Embleton finishing 2nd on yellow and Sam Embleton and Elaine Eyers finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively on the Score course.

The league standings were then announced and DFOK had eleven top three finishers, with two finishing 1st. Adam Davidson won the junior league for the green course and Sam Embleton won the Score course!! Congratulations to everyone who competed in the KOL this season, especially all the medal winners, and we look forward to seeing you all back in October.

The final results for the series are here.

Success at the Southern Champs

The weather was warm and sunny at Great Ridge in Wiltshire for the Sarum Saunter and Southern Championships. Only a small DFOK contingent made the journey, but 3 of the 7 found themselves on the podium. Congratulations to M35 Southern Champion, Andrew Pitcher, as well as Isla Findlay (2nd on W12) and Jake Bennett (3rd on M14), who received a jar of local honey as runners up. Also, well done to Keith Bennett for 1st place on the M50 Short course.

Yvette Baker Shield heat at Knole Park

After coming 3rd in the Yvette Baker Shield competition last year, there were great expectations for DFOK's qualifying heat this year, and the DFOK Juniors more than rose to the challenge! They all had fantastic runs - and a lot of fun - some running up beyond their age classes or solo for the first time. The fantastic team effort secured them 1st place in the heat and a trip to Capite Wood for the final later in the year. If you are under 18 years old and would like to join DFOK's Junior Team, get in touch for more details.
