Local level event

What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

This is the penultimate event of the 2022/23 KOL series.

Entries are being kept open until noon on Saturday for anyone still wanting to run but please enter via racesignup before you leave home.

Directions / Parking

The event is based at Baldwyn's Park Scout Hut, 58-64 Eden Rd, Bexley DA5 2EG

There is limited parking at the Event Centre but places are available in nearby streets.

The start (600m) and finish (100m) are accessible from the rear of the Event Centre building. Please follow the red and white taped route from the Event Centre to the start.

Map / Terrain

Mixed forest with a good path network and all courses will have some climb.

Course Information

Yellow 2.0km

Controls (checkpoints) are very easy to find, mostly on paths, ideal for younger children and complete beginners.

Orange 3.0km

Controls are on or near paths with some route choice. Good for progressing juniors and adults who are reasonably confident reading a map.

Green 4.5km

Controls are away from paths giving more navigational challenge. Suitable for those with some experience.

Blue 6.5km

As technically as hard as we can make it; for experienced orienteers.

All course lengths are subject to final course planning

Score

21 controls. Visit as many controls as you can in an hour in any order. 10 points per control. 5 points deduction for every minute or half minute late finishing

Individuals

Senior: £5.00/£7.00

Junior: £2.00/£3.00

Electronic punching chip hire: £1.00

The lower entry fee is for members of British Orienteering

Groups participating together (one entry, one map and includes chip hire)

Entry Fee: £10.00

For a group, only one person needs to enter but after the surname please type "+2" say to indicate that this is a group of three people participating together. One map will be issued to the group but extra maps can be provided on request to the organiser in advance at £1 each if there are still maps available for that course.

Juniors are under 21 on 31st December.

Newcomers are most welcome

Facilities

Toilets are available in the scout hut PLEASE - no muddy shoes inside.

There are no refreshments available.

First aid kit on a largely self-use basis with a qualified sports first aider in attendance.
