Success at the British Championships
Congratulations to Sheralee Bailey who achieved 2nd place in W45L at the British Long Distance Championships held at Kilnsey Moor in the Yorkshire Dales on 5th May. The terrain was largely runnable open moorland with significant height gain and loss on each course. The start was some 150m higher than the finish leading to some tricky steep downhill legs towards the end of the course. Sheralee was only 18s behind, an excellent performance in terrain well suited to the SYO winner.

Participant Satisfaction Survey
DFOK are pleased to announce that over the coming months we will be working with British Orienteering on an event participant satisfaction initiative to develop our understanding of the participant experience at club events.
Between April and June participants at a selection of events will be invited to share their views and comments via a short survey. The Participant Satisfaction Survey will help us understand participant satisfaction with different aspects of the events, including the courses, facilities, volunteers, logistics and equipment as well as the overall satisfaction with events.
We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts. The comments and insight obtained from your responses will help British Orienteering and the club to identify participant-focused development opportunities and to continually improve these events.

Kent Night Cup (KNC)
With the clocks going forward a week ago that marked the end of the 2018/19 Kent Night Cup season. This was another successful series with 26 events put on over six months by the organising clubs (SAX/DFOK/SO/MV). They attracted 153 competitors in total, with 15 from DFOK. The leading DFOK performers were:
· 7th Andrew Pitcher (down 1)
· 8th Neil Speers (up 1)
· 28th Dave Cave-Ayland (down 7)
· 30th David Lobley (up 11)
· 36th Julie Collins (no change)
· 42nd Colin Merry (up 4)
Plans are already starting to take shape for next season, with DFOK putting on six events between October and March (generally around the middle of the month). If you are interested in taking part in the series next winter and want information then let me know. Similarly, if you are not one of our regular KNC organiser/planners and would like to arrange one (and collect the 40 points for doing so) then contact me.
Neil Speers (DFOK KNC Coordinator)

David Ware
It is with great sadness that I have been informed of the passing of David Ware, club member for more years than I can remember and who was our trusty Secretary for an unequalled 19 years. Those who knew David will remember his smiling face, joviality, total love of the countryside and his energy and enthusiasm to accomplish more in retirement than many others achieve during their working lives. David was always supportive of others and worked tirelessly and generously to further the club and its membership. He will be sorely missed.
I am sure we will all also be thinking of Catherine, who continues the painful process towards recovery following the road accident almost two years ago, and of son Mark who was also a club member for many years. We wish you and other family members well at this very difficult time.
Andrew Evans
